TEACHING  SEMINAR under the auspices of an Pediatric Surgeons Association (EUPSA)

ANORECTAL  MALFORMATIONS & HIRSCHSPRUNGS’S DISEASE

ANNOUNCEMENT

 26th -27th   September, 2014

Helsinki, Finland

Dear Colleagues,

It  is  a  pleasure  to  invite  you  to  the  2014  STEPS  (Strategies  &  Trends  in European Pediatric Surgery) Seminar under the auspices of EUPSA (European Pediatric Surgeons Association) to be held in Helsinki, Finland from the 26th-27th September.

The 2014 teaching seminar this year will focus on “Anorectal malformations and Hirschsprung’s Disease”. Both the topics still offer challenges to the pediatric surgical community due to large variations in presentations. Experts from Europe and overseas have been invited to deliver State-of-the-Art lectures and share their experiences in the diagnosis, management and outcomes in these areas.

Helsinki is an interesting location as it is spread across a number of bays and peninsulas and  over  a  number of  islands. The  inner  city  area  occupies a southern peninsula, which is rarely referred to by its actual name Vironniemi. Much of  Helsinki outside the  inner  city  area consists of  postwar suburbs separated from each other by  patches of forest. A narrow, ten-kilometer- long Helsinki Central Park that stretches from the inner city to the northern border of Helsinki is an important recreational area for residents.

The University of Helsinki is located in Helsinki  since 1829, but was founded in the city of Turku in 1640 as The Royal Academy of Turku, at that time part of the Swedish Empire. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines across 11 faculties and 11 research institutes, and promises to be an excellent location for this seminar.

Prof. Risto Rintala and the local organizing team along with the staff of the Hospital for Children and Adolescents, University of Helsinki as well as the team of STEPS, welcome you to  the city of Helsinki for STEPS 2014.
